Hey guys I got an a idea for some new videos to make for my YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.c...rk?feature=mhee The video's I make arent of normal gameplay. I try increase the immersion as much as possible and make it more like your watching a short film instead of a game. So I edit it a lot, make special cut scenes, zoom into certain targets, add in some music and edit in sound effects which could just be birds in the background or a little waterfall in the background, whatever I think would make sense for the viewer to experience.

Battlefield 3 is great to watch because of it's graphics, especially when there is good teamwork and it's more believable if a squad is using realistic tactics, such as defending a flag as Infantry or Flying TOGETHER and communicating. Much more realistic than a squad where some are on the ground, 1 up in the air, 1 surviving in the middle of nowhere. Showing off these more realistic scenes will make it more immersive and fun to watch for the audience if it isnt just gameplay which is shown.

We already do this in-game at the moment, we try stick together and defend the same flag/s, sometimes get in the air together and so on. I also try invite everyone to the voice chat whenever I play so it's easier for us to communicate. I will be recording all this from now on.

It doesnt stop there though...

After recording I will give it the CGN treatment, edit the clip, zoom in at times, edit in sound effects, music and so on like I usually do. I may also call on whoever was in the squad at that time to do some voice acting. First I will watch the footage and will make up a script with what people have to say. This would just involve talking over Teamspeak or Battlelog and I'll record it, the real battlefield has a lot of swearing in it, there are a lot more emotions than in the game which I will try to emulate, it definetly wont be a comedy..
In my opinion realistic communication like Tango, Bravo, Target Down and things would make it more unique, entertaining and engaging. You dont have to voice act though, however I will be making this as easy as possible for you to do this. If you dont want to I will simply delete that footage and try again with or without you and will ask you again if your in it. Whenever I do find something worth it's own story with your voice in, I will tell you so that the video will only go up with your permission.

So just thought I should write this down so I can give the link to people so they know the deal. Thanks.

I should say that the gameplay needs to be as realistic as possible. I wont be showing a squad capturing a flag, taking a tank, stealing helicopters and so on. I expect most of these videos to be us either defending or attacking a certain flag as Infantry. An entire video of a 3 man tank crew, 2 man helicopter crew or 2 pilots working together will be suitable. I can edit infantry rounds, plane rounds and tank rounds. All into 1 video and make it look like it all happened in 1 round of the game.

If you have experienced any of these cinematic moments you want other people to experience let me know and we can try do that in game together and make a story around it. I'll give 2 of my own examples...
On Operation Metro when the Russians are being spawn camped in the tall uncapturable building it looks like a standoff, similar to the singleplayer levels with the same building. Would be entertaining to here the cries of the Russian squad as they fight off the other team which sorrounds them.
On Sharqi Peninsula in Battlefield 2 sometimes I would lead a squad from the helicopter spawn to the back of the tall building by using the boat. From there we would sneak up behind the enemy, making sure not to bring any attention to us and capture the building, secure the roof and defend there so the other team wouldnt capture it again. Could turn this into a small story about that squad being a spec ops team as the rest of the army attacks head on.

No comedy! We'll see about that. More people will want to watch, or continue to watch and subscribe to your channel if there is some light humor in your videos.
There are heaps of cinematic moments in battlefield, just gotta get in there are record shit and send it to you somehow I guess? I got frapps so not a problem but the files come out biiiig so dont know best way to send to you? Last time I put thro windows movie maker and reduced the size of files, but you didnt want to use because it reduces quality as well.
I have vegas pro working on my comp now if that can do any thing to compress the frapps clips my end and uncompress them at your end?

Homing Ferret?

Compressing video reduces the quality. If one seen has been compressed and the others havent it is usually noticeable and the whole clip is screwed. I dont want to have to compress it any more. BF3 needs to be in HD! I dont know of any special way to put up a 4-10g clip of Fraps without using something like Bit Torrent and zipping it up in a file.

in-game I wont be going out of my way for comedic scenes so I wont be jihading with planes and helicopters and trying to explain why it was necessary. If were all on the Bobcat and we do well then I'll make it look like were being serious. Just the fact that were surviving in a warzone with a Bobcat is funny, I wont be giving it any extra attention, or silly music. The videos will resemble realistic war scenes instead of some funny bugs found on a game which is bound to happen.

Yeah, compression is not good. Even if it goes compressed then back to uncompressed. It may lose some bits and bytes (that you won't know of).

The best way (serious suggestion) would be to setup an FTP server on the computer with the movie, forward port 21 on your router to the LAN IP of the computer, and give Cambo an account to log in and download it overnight or whenever. You'll probably be maxing out your upload so it will affect your overall speed, so best avoid having it downloaded whilst you want to use the Internet. Max download speed will probably be 100Kbps. 10GB file would probably take about 30 hours non stop at 100Kbps. Not sure if your ISP would count uploads.

Yea i'll have to think about it, i've only got like 20GB quota p/month. And dunno whats happening after next week, I might not get chance to play at all, will have to see. I think some slow motion shit would work great in the video btw. I have about 4TB for storage now so heaps of space for music, movie and game stuff

Maybe just wait for me to do it (as usual) as I make my own version of the clips obviously from my point of view. I dont think another point of view will be needed honestly. War only has one view, not everything is meant to be clear and visible.

The only catch is I cant die when filming, I could die and be revived, I could edit the hell out of that but I cant die in game or it would destroy the whole video.
Soldier 1: Oh wheres the sarge?
Soldier 2: He died!
Soldier 1: Oh dont we have a medic?
Soldier 2: Hey least I admit I'm selfish!
Soldier 3: Wow nice compassion there.. our sargent was just killed and were in the middle of a dam warzone!
Soldier 2: Dont worry he'll spawn soon.
Sarge: Alright squad I'm back from the dead. Now lets go kill some shit and make it look like a real war zone even though the camerman can simply respawn!
IMMERSION DESTROYED!!!!!

yeah cuz its cinematic its hard to do, prob couldnt have made it any harder. Everything has to be pretty much perfect.
I dont know if being revived would ruin it as well, prob best to try and hang back when recording.
What did you wanna do record on multiplayer or on co op. Best to just do it and see what happens, then make improvements for next time or whatever.
